Adobe Acrobat Reader Won T Open

broken image

Active2 years, 8 months ago

Just reformatted mioy computer and upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate, now I cannot open PDF's - the reader closes immediately - doesn't open the PDF at all. I can't even open Reader XI by itself. I tried uninstalling and rolling back to Reader 10. Open Adobe Reader. Click on the ‘Edit' menu then ‘Preferences'. Click on ‘General' on the side bar. Click on the button ‘Select Default PDF Handler'. Click on the drop down box and select ‘Adobe Reader '. Click on ‘Apply' and then ‘OK' to exit out the dialogs. PDF files will now open in Internet Explorer, using Adobe Reader. So, while using the new edition of Adobe Acrobat, you might be unable to open the PDF files that have created in the older version of the program. Case 4 – Damaged Adobe Acrobat or Reader. Adobe Reader or Acrobat, or the components they depend on could be corrupted, and thus they can't perform their functions correctly.

Adobe Reader XI and Acrobat X have stopped opening. When I try to open a PDF, or either one of these programs, the cursor shows a busy icon for a few seconds and stops.

Each time I open it a process will show up in Task Manager, but no window will open.

I have tried these things, but none will work

  1. Restarting the computer
  2. Running as Administrator
  3. Repairing the installation
  4. Reinstalling
  5. Following this guide: http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/acrobat-failed-launch-30-days.htmlWhen I ran acrofix it returned exit code 3
  6. Also I have seen, Adobe Reader XI will not launch, but I am not running tune up.

There is nothing in Event Viewer for either Reader or Acrobat either.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

Adobe Acrobat Reader Cannot Open Inside An Appcontainer

I had the same problem. It was frustration having to use internet browsers to read PDF files. Until one day, I tried to open acrobat reader XI again and the user agreement came on. I clicked agree and everything is running fine now. Do you remember the user agreement coming on after a successful re-installation?

I just had the same problem and this answer helped, thanks! To force the appearance of the user agreement I opened EULA.EXE by double clicking, which should be located in C:Program Files (x86)AdobeReader 11.0Reader or a similar path, and accepted the agreement and now everything seems to work.

A little bit later, I found my answer. I had this same issue with Adobe Reader and Acrobat. It was not the EULA. I was messing with the task manager and I realized that killing the process acrobat_sl.exe for Acrobat and reader_sl.exe for Adobe Reader solved my problem. I then created a batch file that auto ran everyday and killed these tasks.

I know I'm late on this thread, but none of the things above helped me out, but I did find a solution to the proposed problem. Since my Adobe would not launch from the desktop, or the .exe in program files, I found a known good computer with the same Adobe and copied the Adobe files from that computer and replaced it with the broken PC adobe files. Adobe works great now.

Adobe Reader Won't Open Document

Problem

When using Internet Explorer to open a PDF document you receieve the following error:

Adobe Acrobat does not support Internet Explorer's Enhanced Protection Mode (EPM). Either install the latest version of Adobe Reader or disable EPM in Internet Explorer.

Solution

This issue is generally caused when an older version of Adobe Acrobat (the PDF creating software) is installed.

Because the version of Adobe Acrobat is older, it does not support the EPM security feature in Internet Explorer 10 and later.

Solution 1 – update Adobe Acrobat

If it is a moderately modern version of Acrobat the update will hopefully include support for Internet Explorer's EPM security feature.

Solution 2 – disable opening PDF files in the browser

This solution involves changing the Adobe Acrobat settings so that the PDF files do not open in the browser window.

Depending on your browser the PDFs made automatically open in their own window or the download option may appear.

  1. Open Adobe Acrobat
  2. Click on the ‘Edit' menu then ‘Preferences'
  3. Click on ‘Internet' on the side bar

The solution to to make sure the latest version of Adobe Reader is installed and then set Adobe Reader to be the default program for PDF files. This way when you open PDF files from Internet Explorer, the latest version of Adobe Reader will handle the file – which supports the EPM security feature.
